COBY DVD968 Recently purchased this. Not Bad, But............. August 8, 2010 Rick M. Recently purchased this as an 'inexpensive' home theatre audio system as the new TV lacked severely in bass, range, etc. The Coby came nicely packaged and set-up easily. Beung a 'home theatre compact unit', it sets on the big screen stand beneath the TV.
The BAD SIDE.....the 'on unit' Coby Home Theaterdisplay is so small that it is hard to read at a typical 'Big Screen' viewing distance. Other issues are the 'bottom firing woofer' legs are too short and setting it on carpeting next to the stand 'buries' the speaker in the carpet, cutting way down on any bass that may be there. I use the Cobys' 'LINE' source input to amplify the TV audio (TV speakers are off...) and the Coby doesn't remember the last selected source when powered off. This requires you to 'step' thrrough the SOURCE SELECTIONS of DVD - RADIO - LINE, each time you power up. No big deal except the system APPEARS to have a very narrow vertical viewing angle of seeing the remote controllers' beam, so response is erratic unless you lower the remote down to the height of the main unit. Final result....you get the Radio static noise every time until you finally reach the LINE source selection...kind of annoying. The only way around this is connect the FM and AM antennas (provided...) so you'll pickup a station during this time, and raise the installation height to improve seeing the remote.
The GOOD SIDE......sound is pretty good (superior to my brand new Mitsubishi TV...), there is A LOT of setup capabilities including echo and different music hall settings, the manual is well written, and the price is O/K !
The FINAL WORD.....Would I buy another one ? Probably not. I would get one that is dedicated as an audio amp and speaker system as I don't need the DVD function from it (possibly a Sound Bar...). Am I sorry I bought this ? Not much...it does work AS ADVERTISED. Would I recommend it for you ? Depends on your needs. Go 'On-line', get the manual if available free for the product you are interested in and see before hand if its' what you want....

Terrible product August 3, 2010 Addy I received this system as a gift from my boyfriend and this is the second system that I have to return back because it has been giving me nothing but problems. The first system would play the dvd's but the sound was so distorted that even cleaning the system was not working. I sent the first system back and they replaced it. The second dvd system was working fine until a week and a half ago. I was playing a dvd and after it ended, I pushed the open button and the tray slid out but the disc was not there. It became wedged into the player. I had to use a knitting needle to pull it close to the opening and sticky tape to pull it out the rest of the way. I thought it was that one disc only because it was able to give me back my cleaning disc when I used it. But when I played a cd and wanted to take it out, it did the same thing. So I gave up and told amazon I'll be sending the machine back for a full refund. I love my boyfriend dearly but it's unfortunate that this product turned out to be so shoddy that I have to return it. Second problem I'm facing is trying to print out the receipt. I keep getting error when I attempt it but when I print something else (to check it's not the printer) I see it's only giving me a problem when I try to print the receipt. I'm sorry Amazon but I don't like this Coby product. I hope you'll be able to refund my boyfriend.
Great for the price July 24, 2010 Stephen Andrew Gillespie (Wilmington, NC United States) For the price range, they sound great, and it is extremely loud (I'm a performing musician, so I can handle VERY loud... While playing my 360, anything above about 15 is uncomfortably loud for me. TV is about 25-30 depending on the program, it defaults at 35, and I've never had any need to try and take it above there.
It's well made, and very solid (be advised, the Sub is rather large), and the DVD player works like a charm.
The one con: the fan on the receiver. When there is a signal present, it constantly spins up and down and is loud enough to be heard over the fans on the 360. For the non-gamers, that is a real feat.
Colby Home Theatre System May 13, 2010 E. Lundy (Nampa, Idaho) This product has excellent sound, and video. It does require some reading of the manual to use certain features, such as the radio. I would purchase it again. For the price, I think it is a good value.
Poor Quality May 12, 2010 Kathy Madden (Niagara Falls NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this item as a Christmas present for my husband. We have used it 6 times and in the middle of watching a movie we paused the movie to greet a guest when we came back the unit had no power and no longer works. We don't even have a way to retrieve the CD inside. The system also does not work through your cable box so basically it is a stand alone system no surround when watching TV. Horrible directions and explaining this before purchase it took us several hours to get sound from our TV when not watching a DVD very disappointing since we had a receiver prior which worked with all components. When we contacted Coby we have had it over 3 months so they will do NOTHING for us. Not only is this a poor quality item but the manufacturer doesn't stand behind their product 3 months for a Home Theater System???
