Product Description
The new TH-BA1 is a soundbar system that features a low-profile 4.1-channel front surround sound bar and wireless subwoofer. This system combines sleek design and simple setup with performance that delivers clear dialog and convincing surround sound. The sound bar is configured to fit neatly under a TV or can be wall-mounted. Its front surround technology eliminates the need for rear speakers and the placement problems, clutter and extra wiring that comes with them. A single cable connects the sound bar to a source (DVD or Blu-ray player) or TV via each systems' two digital optical inputs and one analog input. And to further simplify setup, the included subwoofer is wireless.

4 out of 5 stars Good but not the Best   August 25, 2010
J. Mason (Houston, Tx)
Overall it does what it's designed to do. Sound quality is good but not the best out there. For the money, it serves the purpose. It is way better than any LCD tv sound and that is it's primary goal. Designwise, it looks good sitting under or in front of any LCD tv. The blue light to me is not distracting at all. Very easy setup and easy to operate. I do not use it for music so cannot attest to its rating in that respect. For watching regular tv or movies it does a good job. Just wish the sound was a bit clearer. The 5.1 is excellent considering it is just a soundbar and not a whole system. I'd give it 3.5 stars but Amazon doesn't have that option. I'd recommend you check out some more products in this price range just to see if you can beat this quality.

4 out of 5 stars Could be louder   August 7, 2010
Joey (San Antonio, TX)
All in all, this seems to be a nice product. However, do not plan on blowing the windows out of the room. At maximum volume, it is loud enough in a very small room (13' x 15'), but it would not be a good choice for a larger room.

Also the optical digital jacks on the back of the unit (in conjunction with Toslink optical cables) seem to just barely hold the cables in place. I'm almost scared to breathe, for fear of dislodging them. They are VERY loose! I must stress that I can't be certain if this is the cable, or the jack. I do know the cables fit nicely on the component end of things (Sony Blue-Ray player, and a DirecTV HD DVR).

The wireless subwoofer is nice (no wires to run), and I had no trouble linking them together (wirelessly). I also have a 2.4 gHz wireless phone (sitting within 2 feet of the sub), and have experienced no interference between the two...

I would definitely recommend using optical digital audio cables. The difference between the analog and digital hook-up is definitely noticable, both in sound quality, and volume.

As others have stated, don't expect a 5.1 or 7.1 surround-sound system with this product, but it is definitely better than the built-in speakers on my JVC flat-panel TV. It is also compact, so it's good for small rooms where space is at a premium.

4 out of 5 stars Perfect for a normal living room   August 1, 2010
ewitkows (Northeastern PA United States)
I had been looking for a sound system like this for some time, mainly because my main entertainment area is in my living room with couches, chairs, a coffee table, etc. More importantly, its not a perfectly dimensional room. Instead my TV is angled in a corner, there's a walk way behind the sitting area, so regular stand-up\mountable rear speakers aren't ideal. With the soundbar, I was able to stand the product up on top of my TV, increasing my sound quality, without running wires and mounting speakers around the room.

Setup was QUICK, just give it power and plug in your stuff. The sub-woofer is wireless (less wires - yay!) I gave the product 4 stars rather than 5 for 2 reasons. One, as other's stated, the product isnt as visually appealing as other brands. Its not that the JVC soundbar is ugly.. others just happen to look nicer. Secondly (and more importantly), audio input is limited to only 2 optical and 1 analog.

Both points being said, this item is a great value for only $250. I was able to hook up my PS3 and Digital Cable, but I was most excited to hook up my Roku Soundbridge, so I can now stream in MP3's from my PC. TosLink cables are super cheap now, I found Tripp Lite A102-02M Digital Optical Audio Cable, 2x Toslink - 2M (6ft) and worked like expected. I know a soundbar cant really replace a true 5.1\7.1 system, but this system does a nice job providing quality sound without being obtrusive in a room meant to do more than just watch Hi-Def movies.

4 out of 5 stars Good for a Soundbar - Don't compare to a 7.1 system   July 30, 2010
Bargain hunter (NJ)
I've hooked this up to the Samsung UN55C8000 LED TV and Samsung 3D Blu-ray player (both via the optical input). It sounds good for a Soundbar for this price point but PLEASE do not expect same sound as a dedicated surround sound system. The remote is quite useful. The only thing I wish was the bass was a little higher also, I wish it would automatically turn-on and off based on the input signal.
