Product Description
Acoustic Research has developed a home-theater speaker system that surrounds you with rich, real 5.1 channel sound. Though there are many systems that do this, AR has developed a really neat way to hide all those speakers. When it comes to home decor, users may prefer that speakers be heard and not seen. That's why each speaker is designed to mate with a wide variety of custom-designed optional speaker covers that include mantel clocks, candle holders, faux books, planters, wall sconces, vases, floor stand baskets as well as vases and trunks to hold the subwoofers. Each one of these optional covers has been custom-designed to fit only the Home Decor line of speakers and once mated with a cover, the speakers virtually disappear and blend in with almost any home environment.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!!!   April 25, 2010
Aaron M. Rogers
I was in the market for some smallish speakers for my living room (WAF) and came across these bad boys. I had a budget of under 500 dollors and was looking at the Energy 5 and Polk RM510. I desided on the HD510 because I heard good reviews on them and couldn't believe what I was getting for under 250 dollors. I have never looked back I have used these speakers for a month now and have trully enjoyed their sound in movies and music. At first they sounded a little tinish but after a few weeks of use for break in they came into their own and fill my living room with great sound. I also got some major brownie points from the wife because they cost half what I was going to spend and my wife can hide them with covers if she can ever pick out the ones she wants. Some folks believe the sub is kind of quite for this setup but to me I feel it is paired nicely with the sats. The only thing that I would change would be the look of the center channel since it is identical to the other sats, you can change the logo to face correctly if you put the speaker on its side so I am happy for now.

1 out of 5 stars bleed-thru from subwoofer walks over FM signals   April 14, 2010

after setting up this system, i was unable to tune in any FM stations with either wire antennae, or amplified unit from Radio Shack. there was a warbling modulation across the entire FM band. tried moving the unit, and switching antennaes. the racket and interference stopped when i unplugged the sub. also tried switching power outlets (different circuit), with no change. has anyone else experienced any similiar problems? this is (was) connected to a new onkyo
tx-sr607 7.2 receiver, and used a 16' Monster sub connector cable (new).

4 out of 5 stars amazing satellite speakers   April 14, 2010

Quality at an affordable price. The satellite speakers are crisp and clear. The subwoofer however came damaged and Tiger electronics refused to make it right, shame on them! The sound makes both games and movies come alive. No need to spend 10 dollars a ticket at the movies anymore. Im currently using the satellites with a previous sub, cant imagine how good the sound would be if Tiger actually shipped a subwoofer that worked. Overall, a great value not to be missed.

4 out of 5 stars Sounds of Music Pleasure   March 18, 2010

I agree with most people when it comes to buying a product before you get a chance to test it out to see if it fits your needs. Well I didn't need to worry with this Stereo Speaker System. Acoustic Research has always been a brand known for making speakers that give justice to sound reproduction. The base just thumps and is very smooth. I didn't have to worry about some of my favorite musicians sounding like they were amateurs because of the quality of the speakers. The listening experience for me is detailed. I try and pick up on subtle variations in the talents of the musicians and you only do this if you have speakers that fully recreate what the artist had in mind when good music is put out to be accepted by a discerning public. These speakers will bring me joy for years and I couldn't be more satisfied.

5 out of 5 stars Buy it for the satellites   February 13, 2010

The other reviewers have already described the physical characteristics of this set well, so I won't dwell on that.

I've owned a lot of hi-fi equipment over the years. I bought this set from another source at basically the same price

The five identical satellites are absolutely outstanding and compete very well with anything of similar size, at any price. Their definition, clarity, and surprisingly "big" sound belie their tiny size.

They require a good deal of power because they are not very efficient. Also, a good receiver is necessary to drive the satellites to full potential, and with a good receiver these satellites can be driven to very loud levels without distortion. They produce amazingly detailed sound, are solid, well built, and very attractive.

The subwoofer is not very good, but it's not very bad either. The operating manual rates it at 175w RMS and capable of 24hz at +/- 3dB. I strongly doubt that either of those spec's is accurate. However, it gets the job done and is much better than no subwoofer at all. As someone joked in another forum, you can always use the sub as an ottoman.

The satellites alone are WELL worth the price. Consider the subwoofer a bonus.
